Shalom, all! As Passover is quickly approaching, I felt to share its relation with the communion, the Cross, and especially the One New Man. A few years ago I was at a church service and heard a message that shifted me to a higher perspective of the One New Man. The message went like this:

“Every message and revelation that is preached should be from the death and resurrection of Christ!” He also stated, “no other revelation has greater importance! In fact, all other revelations have their origin in the revelation of the cross.”

All of a sudden my spirit began to leap inside of me just like when Elizabeth met Mary and the baby (John the Baptist) leapt inside her! God used this message of the Cross to quicken me to the significance of the One New Man and its origin within the revelation of the cross! And, it is also a significant part of the communion that many of us have overlooked including myself. Let me explain.

As believers, when we take communion, we are reminded of the benefits that we have received through Yeshua’s Blood which includes the redemption of our sins, along with healing, freedom, etc,. and we express our adoration and thankfulness to God as we partake of the elements of the communion that includes the wine and bread. And while this is right to do mainly because of our obedience in following His commandment to do these things, there remains one thing that we have not considered as we partake of the communion, a very significant benefit that has been overlooked…the grafting in of the Gentiles. So how does this connect to the Passover? Let me expound a little.

Jesus said in Matthew 26:27-28, “This is my body..the cup..drink from it, for this is My blood of the New Covenant which is shed for many for the remission of sins…”

Where else in the Bible do we see this term, the New Covenant? Or shall I ask where did this originate from? We find this term in the book of Jeremiah the prophet. He prophesied, “Behold, the days are coming when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel…I will put my law within them..I will be their God and they will be my people…..I will forgive their iniquity and remember their sins no more.” (Jeremiah 31:31-34)

There would be a time when this promise that God gave to Israel would come to pass and it surely has! It was through the Blood of Yeshua that:

  1. the law is written on their heart vs them trying to work their own righteousness
  2. they would have their own relationship with God because the veil through His flesh was torn that gives them access. They don’t have to depend on a high priest to go into the temple once a year as Yeshua is now their High Priest!
  3. Their sins are forgiven through His Blood!

It was through this same promise that God included the Gentiles so that they too may receive the benefits of the New Covenant. How so you may ask?

Paul announced this to the Gentile believers in Ephesians 2:11-12 when he said, ” you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, strangers from the covenants of promise….”

V 14:16, “But now in Christ Jesus…have been brought near by the Blood of Christ. For He Himself….has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity…so as to create in Himself the One New Man…and reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross…”

Through the Blood of Yeshua, they were not only made near to God, but it was through His body on the cross the two became one and were reconciled to God and to one another.

See, there was a time that there was a separation between Jews and Gentiles. They couldn’t worship or fellowship together because of the ordinances that were established and the wall of the temple that divided them. And it was through His body on the cross that this wall of separation was abolished forever, hallelujah!

I believe it was always God’s intention for the Gentiles to come into the fold only because of the Biblical references, especially in the Old Testament. For example, In Exodus 12:48, He allowed them to partake of the Passover in the Hebrew scriptures if they were circumcised. Then we see the foreshadowing of the grafting in through the story of Ruth and Naomi. Then of course there are the prophecies;

“I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.” (Isaiah 65:1, Romans 11:20).

And now, the foreshadowing and the prophecies have come to pass because it was on Passover that His Blood was shed and His body broken, and the result: the Gentiles can now partake of that covenant promise which includes:

  1. The law or the teachings of God written on their hearts
  2. A relationship with God
  3. God will remember their sins no more!

Thus, the Gentile believers are grafted into the Jewish root that includes the promises (per Paul in Ephesians 2) and has become one with their Jewish brothers and sisters who are believers in Yeshua.

Both were reconciled to God through the cross, and both received access to God as the veil to the Most Holy Place, His presence, was torn. And all of this happened when? At Passover. Again, when? At Passover? Salvation for the Gentiles? At Passover. Salvation for the Jews? At Passover.

Now that we established how the One New Man is in the Passover, let’s touch briefly on the relation between Passover and communion. Throughout the years as I have spoken to people within the church, some of them did not know that the communion or The Lord’s Supper was really a commemoration of the Jewish feast of Passover. When Yeshua spoke about His blood and body it was at the Seder table!

Can you imagine how glorious that must have been as Yeshua spoke about the New Covenant in His blood that will be shed for many at the Seder Table? The long-awaited promise to Israel was about to come to pass! The New Covenant was about to be fulfilled within this beautiful feast and it wasn’t just for Israel.

It was also for all who would believe and receive Yeshua as Lord! And that meant the Gentiles had this wonderful opportunity to become part of the family of God and inherit this long-awaited promise through their grafting into the Jewish believers, thus the One New Man is established because of His Blood and His body on the cross.

In closing, I want to share a directive that the Lord gave to me when I received this beautiful revelation concerning the One New Man.

As I take communion, I thank the Lord for the benefits I’ve received through His death and resurrection. I now include thanking Him for the grafting in of the Gentiles and the establishment of the One New Man. I thank God for freely giving us His Son so that we can be part of the family of God, the One New Man that has its origin in the revelation of the Cross!

Chag Pesach Sameach! Happy Passover, and Resurrection Sunday to all of you!
